PHASE 2
Excavation & Site Preparation
Set Up for a Clean Build
Site Requirements
The prepared building pad should extend at least 5 feet beyond the building footprint on all four sides. This provides adequate working space for our crews and equipment while allowing proper grading and drainage around the finished building.

Strength Starts With the Base
Fill Dirt & Compaction
If fill material is required, proper compaction is critical.
To ensure a stable foundation:
- Fill must be placed in 6-inch lifts (layers).
- Each lift must be compacted before additional material is added.
- Compaction should be performed using a vibratory roller compactor weighing at least 8,000 pounds or larger.
- Proper compaction helps prevent settling, cracked concrete, and structural movement after construction.
Keep Moisture Where It Belongs
Drainage
The finished site should promote positive drainage away from the building. Standing water around the foundation can lead to erosion, moisture issues, and unnecessary maintenance in the future.
